Typo3: Backend Upload Limit of 2 MB

I installed bnbbackup on typo3. I can make backup files and download them, perfect. But when I try to upload them (and their file size is above 2MB) it says “Could not write uploaded file to /var/www/cms_blank/backups/import/filename”. Clicking on “Install” in the menu on the left (in the backend) and then on “Basic Configuration” and further down to “Maximum upload filesize too small?” it states: “upload_max_filesize=2M By default TYPO3 supports uploading, copying and moving files of sizes up to 10MB (You can alter the TYPO3 defaults by the config option TYPO3_CONF_VARS[BE][maxFileSize]). Your current value is below this, so at this point, PHP sets the limits for uploaded filesizes and not TYPO3. ” Hence, the php is limiting the upload file size. One can check this by clicking on “phpinfo()” right here in the install tool. The line “upload_max_filesize” shows” 2MB! So we have to change the php.ini I guess 😉

On my debian squeeze the php.ini is located here: /etc/php5/apache2/php.ini. After changing the line containing “upload_max_filesize” from 2 MB to 10 MB uploading of files with file size bigger than 2 MB works 😉

But don’t forget to restart php or the whole box 😉 or just  restart the web server (/etc/init.d/apache2 reload), should also be ok 😉
